Sunshine Coast Fishing Reports

Local Fishing Report: Thursday 2019-12-19

Offshore: Winds will be blowing Easterly at 10 to 15 knots becoming variable about 10 knots in the middle of the day, with seas around the 1m meter mark. Sunshine Reef has had Spanish mackerel, spotty mackerel, cobia, mac tuna, big yellow fin tuna and snapper. Cougar One skipper fished North Reef for big grass sweetlip, Maori Cod, mosese perch, gold spot cod and small snapper. The Barwon Banks has recently had good catches of snapper, Mahi Mahi, cobia, tusk fish, moses perch, pearl perch, Maori cod and mackerel. Spotty and a few spanish mackerel, cobia, sweetlip and snapper from Caloundra 12 mile reef. Spotty mackerel to 90cm from Caloundra 5 mile.

Estuaries and Beaches

Noosa: Queenfish, giant trevally and flathead in Weyba Creek. Diamond and tea leaf trevally and flathead from the current line between the river mouth and Woods Bays. Big flathead and queenfish from Tewantin Reach. A few good jacks from between the lakes. Whiting from the frying pan and Munna Point.

Maroochydore: Queenfish and flathead from Bli Bli reach. Whiting around Chambers Island and Twin Waters. Big flathead in Eudlo Creek. Flathead and mangrove jack in the creeks. Trevally, mangrove jack and flathead in Maroochy Waters canal.

Mooloolaba: Dart off the beach at Warana. Diamond and giant trevally in the Kawana Waters canals. Flathead, mangrove jack and giant trevally in the Mooloolaba canals. Bream and cod around the moorings. Mangrove jack from the Twin bridges and rocky areas of the middle river.

Caloundra: Dart off the beach at Currimundi. Whiting in Currimundi lake and mangrove jack in Currimundi Creek. Whiting and some big flathead from Golden Beach. Bream and trevally in Pelican Waters.

Reuben Jodie Kay 62cm Dusky Flathead 

Reuben and Jodie Kay fished in a Swan Boat Hire polycraft with their parent above the Bli Bli bridge when this 62cm dusky flathead took a liking to one their soft plastics.

Local Fishing Report: Wednesday 2019-12-18

Offshore: Winds will be blowing East to southeasterly at 15 to 20 knots easing to 10 to 15 knots in the evening, with 1.5 to 2 metres, decreasing below 1.5 metres around midday. Get geared up for Thursday and Friday with conditions improving greatly. Sunshine Reef has had Spanish mackerel, spotty mackerel, cobia, mac tuna, big yellow fin tuna and snapper. Cougar One skipper fished North Reef for big grass sweetlip, Maori Cod, mosese perch, gold spot cod and small snapper. The Barwon Banks has recently had good catches of snapper, Mahi Mahi, cobia, tusk fish, moses perch, pearl perch, Maori cod and mackerel. Spotty and a few spanish mackerel, cobia, sweetlip and snapper from Caloundra 12 mile reef. Spotty mackerel to 90cm from Caloundra 5 mile.

Offshore: Winds will be blowing South to southeasterly at 20 to 25 knots, temporarily easing to 15 to 20 knots during the morning until late afternoon, with seas at 1.5 to 2.5 metres, decreasing to 1.5 metres during the morning, then increasing to 1.5 to 2 metres by early evening. Sunshine Reef has had Spanish mackerel, spotty mackerel, cobia, mac tuna, big yellow fin tuna and snapper. Cougar One skipper fished North Reef for big grass sweetlip, Maori Cod, mosese perch, gold spot cod and small snapper. Dolphin Fish Barwon Banks 

The crew aboard Deep End Charters had a hot session on the Dolphin Fish during a full day charter to the Barwon Banks over the weekend, boating several fish up to 12kg.

Local Fishing Report: Monday 2019-12-16

Offshore: Winds will be blowing North to northwesterly at 15 to 20 knots easing to 10 to 15 knots inshore during the morning. Winds shifting north to northeasterly 15 to 20 knots in the afternoon, then turning south to southeasterly 20 to 25 knots in the evening as a gusty southerly change moves north. Southeasterly winds increasing to 25 to 30 knots in the evening, with seas around 1 to 1.5 metres, increasing to 1 to 2 metres inshore during the afternoon. Sunshine Reef has had Spanish mackerel, spotty mackerel, cobia,mac tuna and snapper. Cougar One skipper fished North Reef for big grass sweetlip, Maori Cod, mosese perch, gold spot cod and small snapper. The Barwon Banks has recently had good catches of snapper, Mahi Mahi, cobia, tusk fish, moses perch, pearl perch, Maori cod and mackerel. John Bartosek 45cm fish 

John Bartosek had a good session on Saturday morning fishing in the lower Maroochy River. After loosing several bigger jacks John landed this 45cm fish and also bagged a 39cm whiting and 35cm bream.

Local Fishing Report: Saturday 2019-12-14

Offshore: Pretty good conditions right through the weekend! Today's winds will be north to northwesterly 10 to 15 knots tending north to northeasterly from late morning and seas around 1 metre. Tomorrow conditions will be very workable as well with winds northerly about 10 knots tending north to northeasterly 10 to 15 knots during the afternoon and seas around 1 metre. Sunshine Reef produce a 13.5kg Spanish mackerel and a 105cm cobia, this week as well as, snapper, pearl perch, grass emperor, moses perch, tusk fish and a few bonito. For more information check out www.fishingnoosa.com.au Cougar One skipper Nat Turner on Monday fished Double Island Point in oil-slick calm conditions with a current from the south-east where his crew caught snapper, scarlet sea perch, venus tusk fish, pearl perch, amberjack and Maori cod. North Reefs had gold spot cod, pearl perch, grass emperor, tusk fish and moses perch. The Barwon Banks has recently had good catches of snapper Mahi Mahi, cobia, tusk fish, moses perch, pearl perch, Maori cod and mackerel. Big grass sweetlip, snapper and moses perch from the Gneerings. Spotty and a few spanish mackerel, cobia, sweetlip and snapper form Caloundra 5 and 12 mile reefs.

Estuaries and Beaches

Noosa: Still catching trevally, queenfish, few bigger bream and a few quality flathead in the lower river. Bream, mangrove jack and trevally in the Woods Bays. A few good whiting showing up from throughout lower river.

Maroochydore: There are schools of herring bait fish around Picnic Pt, Chambers Island and up to the Cod Hole. Trevally and bream from the Cod Hole and Chambers Island. Whiting and bream from Cotton Tree. Good flathead and mangrove jack in Petrie Creek. A few mud crabs in the creeks.

Mooloolaba: Worth a try for whiting from the La Balsa sand basin. Flathead on soft plastics in the Mooloolaba canals. Bream, flathead and trevally around the moorings. Mangrove jack and a cod from the Kawana Weir. Mud crabs in the upper river.

Caloundra: Whiting and some big flathead from Golden Beach. Good big grunter, bream and flathead south of Coochin Creek. Bream and trevally in Pelican Waters. Few sand crabs between the bar and Bells Creek, worth chasing a few muddies as well.

Dave McGregor 105cmCobia 

Dave McGregor fishing on his kayak, rigged a whole pilchard, floated it close to the bottom and sat back and waited for a hungry 105cm cobia to his bait. There were also some small tuna working the bait schools. Check out www.fishingnoosa.com.au.
