Local Fishing Report: Saturday 2020-01-04

Offshore: More reasonable conditions today with winds northeasterly about 10 knots increasing to 10 to 15 knots in the late afternoon and evening with seas below 1 metre. With more good conditions tomorrow with winds northeasterly 10 to 15 knots and seas below 1 metre. Cougar One skipper Nat Turner fished Sunshine Reef where they caught coral trout, pearl perch, Spanish mackerel, cobia, and some nice venus tusk fishand a few quality grass sweetlip. The sharks took more than their fair share though. Mitchell Huddleston fished Sunshine Reef, the other day Trolling a whole pilchard on a ''Chicko Troll Rig' he caught a 9kg Spanish mackerel. www.fishingnoosa.com.au The Barwon Banks recently has had quality snapper to 92cm and good good Mahi Mahi, cobia, tusk fish, moses perch, pearl perch, Maori cod and mackerel on the reef. Local angler Dan Lever, caught two good Spanish and a spotty mackerel while fishing Sunshine Reef. All fish went for pilchard floaters. Sunshine Reef has also had big Spanish mackerel, spotty mackerel, cobia, mac tuna, big yellow fin tuna and snapper. Cougar One skipper fished North Reef for big grass sweetlip, Maori Cod, mosese perch, gold spot cod and small snapper. Spotty and spanish mackerel, cobia, sweetlip and snapper from Caloundra 12 mile reef. Spotty mackerel to 90cm from Caloundra 5 mile.

Estuaries and Beaches

Noosa: Diamond and tea leaf trevally and flathead between the river mouth and Woods Bays. Big flathead and queenfish from Tewantin Reach. A few good jacks from between the lakes. Whiting from the frying pan and Munna Point. A few quality muddies throughout the River System

Maroochydore: There has been whiting to 42cm and bream over 40cm around Chambers Island and Twin Waters. Big flathead in Eudlo Creek. Flathead giant trevally and mangrove jack in the creeks. Trevally, mangrove jack, mud crabs and flathead in Maroochy Waters canal.

Mooloolaba: Dart off the beach at Warana. Diamond and giant trevally in the Kawana Waters canals. Flathead, mangrove jack and giant trevally in the Mooloolaba canals. Bream and cod around the moorings. Mangrove jack from the Twin bridges and rocky areas of the middle river.

Caloundra: Dart off the beach at Currimundi. Whiting in Currimundi lake and mangrove jack in Currimundi Creek and in the creeks throughout the passage. Whiting and some big flathead from Golden Beach. Bream and trevally in Pelican Waters.

Local Fishing Report: Thursday 2020-01-02

Offshore: More reasonable conditions today with winds east to northeasterly about 10 knots increasing to 10 to 15 knots in the late evening with seas below 1 metre. With more good conditions tomorrow with winds easterly 10 to 15 knots and seas below 1 metre. Cougar One skipper Nat Turner fished Sunshine Reef on back to back five hour charters on Tuesday. Overall, conditions weren’t too bad however there were a few solid waves on the bar. On the morning trip we caught Spanish mackerel, cobia, and some nice venus tusk fish, while the afternoon trip was similar with the added bonus of quality grass sweetlip. The sharks took more than their fair share though. Offshore: The Team at Swan Boat Hire wish every one a Safe and Happy New Year. More reasonable conditions today with winds northeasterly 10 to 15 knot and seas with seas below 1 metre. With more good conditions tomorrow with winds east to northeasterly about 10 knots increasing to 10 to 15 knots during the afternoon and seas below 1 metre. Mitchell Huddleston from Bribie crossed the bar early this morning and headed out to Sunshine Reef. Offshore: More reasonable conditions tomorrow with winds east to northeasterly 10 to 15 knots and seas with seas around 1 metre. With more of the same tomorrow with winds north to northeasterly 10 to 15 knots and seas below 1 metre. Noosa: Noosa River Fishing Safaris crew released dusky flathead 62cm and 69cm and also released a 73cm queenfish on Friday morning's charter. It went for a live prawn bait, in the lower estuary. Offshore: Today you can expect good conditions with winds easterly 10 to 15 knots with seas below 1 metre. Tomorrow will have similar good conditions with winds east to northeasterly 10 to 15 knots and seas below 1 metre. Jord Wiegerink braved the slop and chop of the bar and bay and fished Hall's Reef yesterday morning.
