Local Fishing Report: Friday 2014-12-26 Boxing Day

Offshore

Conditions are okay, but will become choppy with north to northeasterly 10 to 15 knots, reaching 15 to 20 knots inshore during the afternoon and seas around 1 metre, increasing to 1 to 1.5 metres inshore during the afternoon. The crew on Top Catch Charters have been fishing Caloundra 12 Mile and the Banks for spanish mackerel, spotted mackerel and mahi mahi on the surface, with parrot and sweetlip on the bottom.  Barwon Banks produced quality maori cod, mahi mahi, snapper and red throat emperor.  School makeral and yellow tail king fish have taken surface lures and whole squid at Coolum Reef while Murphys produced good hussar, moses perch, mulloway and cobia.

Estuaries

Noosa: Quality sand whiting, dart and flathead in the surf gutters in front of Teewah village. The odd tailor flathead, tarwhine, bream, trevally and whiting at the Noosa River mouth, Weyba Creek and between the Lakes. Mangrove jack in Weyba Creek, Woods Bay and in the snaggy areas in the upper reaches. Mud crabs in the upper reaches and sand crabs in the lower reaches.

Maroochydore: Whiting form the black banks. Tailor either side of the river mouth and moving towards Picnic Point via the southern channel. Whiting and flathead in the southern channel. Trevally, mangrove jack and school jew at night in the cod hole and upper reaches of Eudlo and Petrie Creeks. Sand crabs in the south channel and a few good mud crabs in the upper reaches.

Kawana: Dart and whiting on the beaches from Point Cartwright to Kawana. Bream around the moorings and along La Balsa Park. Have a go for mangrove jack up to 58cm in Mountain Creek and around McKenzies Bridge. Mud crabs in the upper reaches of the river and the creeks. Sand crabs towards the river mouth.

Caloundra: Trevally, whiting and dart along Currimundi Beach and inside the Caloundra bar. Plenty of sand whiting, bream, flathead and moses perch along the Boardwalk. Mangrove jack around the pontoons in Pelican Waters Canals. Whiting opposite the Power Boat Club, off Moffat Beach and in Currimundi Lake. Jack and trevally in the creeks that feed into the Passage. Sand crabs throughout the passage.

Offshore

Conditions are pretty good for offshore trips with east to southeasterly about 10-15 knots with seas below 1 metre. The crew on Top Catch Charters have been fishing Caloundra 12 Mile and the Banks for spanish mackerel, spotted mackerel and mahi mahi on the surface, with parrot and sweetlip on the bottom.  Barwon Banks produced quality maori cod, mahi mahi, snapper and red throat emperor.  School makeral and yellow tail king fish have taken surface lures and whole squid at Coolum Reef while Murphys produced good hussar, moses perch, mulloway and cobia.

lach Whiting 30-40cm

Lachlan Hutchinson and his dad Michael had a good session in the lower Maroochy a few days ago, for a 56cm flathead and whiting between 30 and 40cm.

Conditions are favourable to offshore trips with Southeasterly winds 10 to 15 knots.. Seas around 1 to 1.5 metres, decreasing to 1 metre during the morning. The crew on Top Catch Charters fished Caloundra 12 Mile on Monday for spanish mackerel, spotted mackerel and mahi mahi on the surface, with parrot and sweetlip on the bottom.  Barwon Banks produced quality maori cod, mahi mahi, snapper and red throat emperor.  School makeral and yellow tail king fish have taken surface lures and whole squid at Coolum Reef while Murphys produced good hussar, moses perch, mulloway and cobia.

Golden trevally and sand whiting on the banks in the lower reaches particularly between Twin Waters and Channel Island.. Sand crabs in the south channel and mud crabs in the upper reaches.

Daniel Vidler caught and released this 85cm flathead in the lower reaches of the Maroochy River on Sunday night.

Local Fishing Report: Sunday 2014-12-21

Offshore

More reasonable fishing conditions particularly early with winds southeasterly 10 to 15 knots, reaching 15 to 20 knots in the afternoon. Seas around 1 metre, increasing to 1 to 1.5 metres around midday. Spanish mackerel, cobia and big yellow tail tuna north of the Blinker also good Spanish mackerel and cobia out from Noosa. Spots like Sunshine Reef and the Barwon Banks fished well for red throat emperor, gold spotted wrasse, mahi mahi, yellowtail king, amberjack, tuskfish and pearl perch.

Estuaries

Noosa: Flathead, bream, trevally and whiting at the Noosa River mouth. Mangrove jack in Weyba Creek, Woods Bay and in the snaggy areas in the upper reaches. Quality whiting in Weyba Creek. Golden trevally and flathead at Tewantin and in the Noosa Sound. Mud crabs in the upper reaches and sand crabs in the lower reaches.

Maroochydore: Chopper tailor at the river mouth. Jew and trevally around Twin Waters. Whiting on the banks in the lower reaches particularly the Black Bank and Goat and Channel Island. Flathead from Picnic Point and off Chambers Island. Sand crabs in the mouth of Petrie Creek. Mud crabs in the upper reaches and the canals.

Kawana: Some bream and whiting on the beach at Mooloolaba and a few dart and flathead along Kawana. Mud crabs in the upper reaches of the river and the creeks. Sand crabs towards the river mouth. Bream around the moorings and along La Balsa Park. Have a go for mangrove jack up to 58cm in Mountain Creek and around McKenzies Bridge.

Caloundra: Trevally inside the Caloundra bar and around the jetties. Bream also around the jetties and the boardwalk. Grunter bream and the odd jack around the pontoons in Pelican Waters Canals. Whiting opposite the Power Boat Club, off Moffat Beach and in Currimundi Lake. Jack and trevally in the creeks that feed into the Passage. Sand crabs throughout the passage.

mahi to 10 kg cobia to 15kg

The crews on Top Catch Charters got on to some mahi mahi to 10kg and big cobia to 15kg on Caloundra 12 Mile.

Local Fishing Report: Saturday 2014-12-20

Offshore

More ideal fishing conditions with winds blowing easterly 10 to 15 knots turning southeasterly in the afternoon. Seas are around 1 metre. Quality Spanish mackerel, cobia and big yellow tail tuna north of the Blinker also good Spanish mackerel and cobia out from Noosa. Spots like Sunshine Reef and the Barwon Banks fished well for red throat emperor, gold spotted wrasse, mahi mahi, yellowtail king, amberjack, tuskfish and pearl perch.

Estuaries

Noosa: Flathead, bream, trevally and whiting at the Noosa River mouth. Mangrove jack in Weyba Creek, Woods Bay and in the snaggy areas in the upper reaches. Big whiting to 33cm in Weyba Creek. Quality golden trevally and flathead at Tewantin and in the Noosa Sound. Mud crabs in the upper reaches and sand crabs in the lower reaches.

Maroochydore: Chopper tailor at the river mouth. Jew and trevally around Twin Waters. Whiting on the banks in the lower reaches particularly the Black Bank, with one angler catching 16 quality fish between 32 and 36cm on Thursday. Flathead from Picnic Point. Sand crabs in the mouth of Petrie Creek. Mud crabs in the upper reaches and the canals.

Kawana: Some bream and whiting on the beach at Mooloolaba and a few dart and flathead along Kawana. Mud crabs in the upper reaches of the river and the creeks. Sand crabs towards the river mouth. Bream around the moorings and along La Balsa Park. Have a go for mangrove jack up to 58cm in Mountain Creek and around McKenzies Bridge.
