Local Fishing Report: Friday 2014-12-19

Offshore

The winds will be a little bit choppy compared to yesterday morning with southeasterly 15 to 20 knots. Seas 1 to 1.5 metres. Quality Spanish mackerel, cobia and big yellow tail tuna yesterday north of the Blinker also good Spanish mackerel and cobia out from Noosa. Spots like Sunshine Reef and the Barwon Banks fished well for red throat emperor, gold spotted wrasse, mahi mahi, yellowtail king, amberjack, tuskfish and pearl perch.

Estuaries

Noosa: Chopper tailor at the river mouth. Mangrove jack in Woods Bay and in the snaggy areas in the upper reaches. Big whiting to 33cm in Weyba Creek. Quality golden trevally and flathead at Tewantin and in the Noosa Sound. Scattered catches of bream throughout the river. Mud crabs in the upper reaches and sand crabs in the lower reaches.

Maroochydore: Chopper tailor at the river mouth. Jew and trevally around Twin Waters. Whiting on the banks in the lower reaches particularly the Black Bank, with one angler catching 16 quality fish between 32 and 36cm on Thursday. Flathead from Picnic Point. Sand crabs in the mouth of Petrie Creek. Mud crabs in the upper reaches and the canals.

Kawana: Some bream and whiting on the beach at Mooloolaba and a few dart and flathead along Kawana. Mud crabs in the upper reaches of the river and the creeks. Sand crabs towards the river mouth. Bream around the moorings and along La Balsa Park. Have a go for mangrove jack up to 58cm in Mountain Creek and around McKenzies Bridge.

Caloundra: Trevally inside the Caloundra bar and around the jetties. Bream also around the jetties and the boardwalk. Grunter bream and the odd jack around the pontoons in Pelican Waters Canals. Whiting off Moffat Beach and in Currimundi Lake. Jack and trevally in the creeks that feed into the Passage. Sand crabs throughout the passage.

There are a few good quality sweetlip out on local reefs at present.

 

Local Fishing Report: Thursday 2014-12-18

Offshore

The winds will be South to southwesterly 10 to 15 knots, reaching 20 knots offshore. Winds tending northwest to northeasterly 10 to 15 knots in the middle of the day ahead of a south to southeasterly change in the late evening. Seas 1 to 1.5 metres, decreasing to 1 metre during the morning. Looking like pretty good conditions particularly early. A few good Spanish mackerel and cobia out from Noosa. Spots like Sunshine Reef and the Barwon Banks fished well for red throat emperor, gold spotted wrasse, mahi mahi, yellowtail king, amberjack, tuskfish and pearl perch.

The winds will be North to northwesterly 10 to 15 knots, reaching up to 20 knots offshore in the morning. Winds tending northwest to northeasterly 15 to 20 knot in the afternoon and evening and reaching up to 25 knots at times offshore. Seas 1 to 1.5 metres, increasing to 1.5 to 2 metres around midday, then decreasing to 1 metre later in the evening. Boats should be able to get out there early this morning. Spots like Sunshine Reef and the Barwon Banks fished well for red throat emperor, gold spotted wrasse, mahi mahi, yellowtail king, amberjack, tuskfish and pearl perch.

Offshore

Southeasterly 10 to 15 knot winds will become 15 to 20 knot northerlies by early afternoon. Seas should be under a metre but will increase to 1-1.5 metres by early this evening. Boats should be able to get out there this morning. Spots like Sunshine Reef and the Barwon Banks fished well for red throat emperor, gold spotted wrasse, mahi mahi, yellowtail king, amberjack, tuskfish and pearl perch last week.

Estuaries

Noosa: Chopper tailor at the river mouth. Sand whiting to 33cm in Weyba Creek. Trevally and flathead at Tewantin and in Noosa Sound. Scattered catches of bream throughout the river. Mud crabs in the upper reaches and sand crabs in the lower reaches.
