Local Fishing Report: Sunday 2015-12-06

Offshore

Conditions will be a bit choppy still untill things settle right down tomorrow in offshore waters today so stay in sheltered waters, with
winds Southeasterly 10 to 15 knots, reaching up to 20 knots offshore north of Maroochydore early in the morning. Seas 1 to 1.5 metres. Earlier in the week,Top Catch Charters has had some great catches with pelagics in good numbers of mahi mahi from the banks and the 50m line, also also on the banks are tuna, mackerel, cobia, red throat emperor, maori cod, squire, coronation trout, tusk fish, fusilier, trevally and amberjack. There's a few good spotty and spanish mackerel showing up on local reefs. A 12kg northern bluefin or longtail tuna taken at Big Hall's reef. North Reef's had moses perch, venus tusk fish, mowong, grass sweetlip, teraglin jewfish, one
snapper, sea bream, Maori cod, gold spot cod and pearl perch.

Estuaries

Noosa: A few good dart and whiting along Teewah Beach. Plenty of mangrove jack have been caught with some released throughout the river system at present. There's been some big flathead caught and released in the Woods Bay and between Tewantin Marina and Makepeace Island. There's been plenty of good flathead, bream, whiting and trevally at the Noosa River mouth. In Weyba Creek there's quality flathead and a few quality sand crabs and mud crabs in the mid to upper reaches.

Maroochydore: Try for dart and whiting along North Shore and off Coolum Beach. Whiting and bream around Chambers Island. A few good flathead, mangrove jack and jew at night in the Cod Hole. Several good catches of mangrove jack in the Cod Hole, Petrie creek and Bli Bli. Flathead and bream from the mouth of Eudlo Creek. Elbow slapper whiting to 40cm from Chambers
Island and Picnic Point. Mud crab in the upper river.

Kawana: Good dart and whiting along the beaches. Trevally along the rock walls River mouth. Trevally, bream and gar from the boat mooring and in the Kawana canals. Offshore

Strong Wind Warning again for today in Sunshine Coast Waters, so rough conditions will continue with winds Southeasterly 25 to 30 knots decreasing to 20 to 25 knots in the morning then increasing up to 30 knots at times offshore in the late afternoon and early evening. Seas will be 2 to 3 metres. Later in the weekend when conditions improve you can look forward to thr following catches, a 12kg northern bluefin or longtail tuna was taken at Big Hall's Reef this week. North Reefs had moses perch, venus tusk fish, mowong, grass sweetlip, teraglin jewfish, one snapper, sea bream, Maori cod, gold spot cod and pearl perch. There's a few good spotty and spanish mackerel showing up on local reefs. Sunshine Reef had quality cobia, coral trout and a good sweetlip. All fish were caught on either pillies or squid. The crews on Top catch Charters landed a few spotty mackerel and yellow tail king around Murphy's Reef. North Reef's had couple of nice Maori cod. Barwon Banks has had snapper, moses perch, jewfish, cobia, venus tusk fish, mowong, spangled emperor, hussar and mahi mahi.

Luke McCombe Barwon Banks Amberjack

Luke McCombe fished the Barwon Banks recently for a nice dolphin fish on trolled gar and amberjack on knife jig.

Good conditions early and becoming choppy with the afternoon sea breeze, as winds northerly 10 to 15 knots, reaching up to 20 knots south of Maroochydore in the afternoon. Seas 1 to 1.5 metres. Trekka 2 fished North Reef this morning and came back with moses perch, venus tusk fish, mowong, grass sweetlip, teraglin jewfish, one snapper, sea bream, Maori cod, gold spot cod and pearl perch. There's a few good spotty and spanish mackerel showing up on local reefs. Sunshine Reef had quality cobia, coral trout and a good sweetlip. All fish were caught on either pillies or squid. The crews on Top catch Charters landed a few spotty mackerel and yellow tail king around Murphy's Reef. North Reef's had couple of nice Maori cod. Barwon Banks has had snapper, moses perch, jewfish, cobia, venus tusk fish, mowong, spangled emperor, hussar and mahi mahi. In Weyba Creek theres quality flathead and a few quality sand crabs.

North Reef's had couple of nice Maori cod yesterday and cobia , good snapper and gold spot cod. Offshore

Seas 1.5 to 2.5 metres, decreasing to 1 to 1.5 metres during the morning. Conditions will ease back tomorrow to east to southeasterly 10 to 15 knots turning north to northeasterly during the evening and seas 1 to 1.5 metres, decreasing below 1 metre during the morning. North Reef's had couple of nice Maori cod yesterday and cobia , good snapper and gold spot cod. Trekka 2 fished The Coffees on Wednesday morning and came back with squire, snapper, pearl perch and venus tusk fish. Barwon Banks has had snapper, moses perch, jewfish, cobia, venus tusk fish, mowong, spangled emperor, hussar and mahi mahi. A few quality mahi mahi North Reef and Sunshine Reef. North Reef's had pearl perch and sweetlip and Chardons Reef has had good catches of jew. The crews on Top Catch Charters have taken good cobia and sweetlip and the odd red emperor from the 9 Mile and Murphies reef's as well as a 65cm sweetlip from Currimundi.

Noosa: The Full Moon phase yesterday will have the fish on the bite, worth a try for jew and mangrove jack. Mangrove jack, a 59cm fish was caught and released in the lower estuary. There's been plenty of good flathead, bream, whiting and trevally at the Noosa River mouth and along the Noosaville reach. In Weyba Creek a 72cm flathead was caught and released and as well a few quality sand crabs, bream and a few quality whiting have been taken. Mangrove jack and threadfin salmon in between the lakes.

Maroochydore: Still plenty of herring bait fish throughout the lower river. Whiting and bream around Chambers Island. A few good flathead,65cm yesterday, mangrove jack and jew at night in the Cod Hole. Several good catches of mangrove jack in the Cod Hole, Petrie creek, Bli Bli and Dunethin Rock. Flathead and bream from the mouth of Eudlo Creek. Whiting and bream from Picnic Point. Mud crab in Eudlo creek, Bli Bli reach and the upper river and a few reasonable sand crabs in the lower reaches.

Kawana: Dart and whiting along the beaches, trevally along the rock walls at the Mooloolah River mouth. Trevally, bream to 35cm and gar from the boat mooring and in the Kawana canals. Flathead and whiting in the sand basin and trevally around Minyama Island. Trevally and flathead from Mountain Creek. Mangrove jack in the middle river and in Mountain Creek in and around the bridge pylons and snaggy banks.

Caloundra: Flathead and mulloway inside Caloundra Bar. Trevally on live bait around Military Jetty and the Boardwalk. Good flathead with some over the maximum size released and trevally from Military jetty area. Trevally and on Wednesday a quality 60cm mangrove jack was taken somewhere around the rock bars, bridge pylons and pontoons, in the canals and creeks that feed into the passage. Catches of sand crabs in the passage and muddies in the creeks.

BenPalmer

Young Zai Palmer caught this 35cm bream from his 'backyard' on the canal at Pelican Waters yesterday. Bait was herring flesh. This was the biggest of 3 keepers he caught.

Noosa: The Full Moon phase today will have the fish feeding, worth a try for jew and mangrove jack. Mangrove jack, a 59cm fish was caught and released in the lower estuary. There's been plenty of good flathead, bream, whiting and trevally at the Noosa River mouth and along the Noosaville reach. In Weyba Creek a 72cm flathead was caught and released and as well a few quality sand crabs, bream and a few quality whiting have been taken. Mangrove jack and threadfin salmon in between the lakes..

Maroochydore: Still plenty of herring bait fish throughout the lower river. Whiting and bream around Chambers Island. A few good flathead, mangrove jack and jew at night in the Cod Hole. Several good catches of mangrove jack in the Cod Hole, Petrie creek, Bli Bli and Dunethin Rock. Flathead and bream from the mouth of Eudlo Creek. Whiting and bream from Picnic Point. Mud crab in Eudlo creek, Bli Bli reach and the upper river and a few reasonable sand crabs in the lower reaches.

Kawana: Dart and whiting along the beaches, trevally along the rock walls at the Mooloolah River mouth. Trevally, bream to 35cm and gar from the boat mooring and in the Kawana canals. Flathead and whiting in the sand basin and trevally around Minyama Island. Trevally and flathead from Mountain Creek. Mangrove jack in the middle river and in Mountain Creek in and around the bridge pylons and snaggy banks.

Caloundra: Flathead and mulloway inside Caloundra Bar. Trevally on live bait around Military Jetty and the Boardwalk. Good flathead with some over the maximum size released and trevally from Military jetty area. Trevally and quality mangrove jack around the rock bars, bridge pylons and pontoons, showing up in the canals and creeks that feed into the passage. Catches of sand crabs in the passage and muddies in the creeks.

Local Fishing Report: Wednesday 2015-11-25

Offshore

Conditions will chop up in the afternoon, with winds north to northeasterly about 10 knots increasing to 15 to 20 knots in the middle of the day. Seas below 1 metre, increasing to 1 to 1.5 metres during the afternoon. Trekka 2 charter to North Reef yesterday came up with cobia , good snapper and gold spot cod. Barwon Banks has had snapper, moses perch, jewfish, cobia, venus tusk fish, mowong, spangled emperor, hussar and mahi mahi. A few quality mahi mahi North Reef and Sunshine Reef. North Reef's had pearl perch and sweetlip and Chardons Reef has had good catches of jew. The crews on Top Catch Charters have taken good cobia and sweetlip and the odd red emperor from the 9 Mile and Murphies reef's as well as a 65cm sweetlip from Currimundi. The Barwon Banks which has been producing amberjack to 26kg, pearl perch, hussar, sea bream, moses perch, venus tusk fish and mowong.

Offshore

Conditions will be a bit choppy with winds northerly 15 to 20 knots turning northeasterly 10 to 15 knots in the early afternoon though still reaching up to 20 knots at times inshore. Seas 1 to 1.5 metres, decreasing to 1 metre during the morning. Barwon Banks has had snapper, moses perch, jewfish, cobia, venus tusk fish, mowong, spangled emperor, hussar and mahi mahi. A few quality mahi mahi North Reef and Sunshine Reef. North Reef's had pearl perch and sweetlip and Chardons Reef has had good catches of jew.
