Local Fishing Report: Monday 2015-11-23

Offshore

Winds will be northeasterly 10 to 15 knots turning northerly before dawn and increasing to 15 to 20 knots during the morning. Winds reaching up to 25 knots inshore in the evening. Seas around 1 metre, increasing to . Wild Thing 2 spent the day at the Barwon Banks on Friday and came back with snapper, moses perch, jewfish, cobia, venus tusk fish, mowong, spangled emperor, hussar and mahi mahi. Dave Hirst trolled his trolled Halco Laser Pro lure, off Sunshine Reef last  Wednesday for a 11kg wahoo. A few quality mahi mahi North Reef and Sunshine Reef. North Reef's had pearl perch and sweetlip and Chardons Reef has had good catches of jew. The crews on Top Catch Charters have taken good cobia and sweetlip and the odd red emperor from the 9 Mile and Murphies reef's as well as a 65cm sweetlip from Currimundi. The Barwon Banks which has been producing amberjack to 26kg, pearl perch, hussar, sea bream, moses perch, venus tusk fish and mowong.

Estuaries

Noosa: Worth fishing for quality flathead and mangrove jack in the Woods Bay. There's been plenty of good flathead, bream, whiting and trevally at the Noosa River mouth and along the Noosaville reach. In Weyba Creek there a few quality sand crabs, bream and a few quality whiting. Mangrove jack and threadfin salmon in between the lakes.

Maroochydore: Still plenty of herring bait fish throughout the lower river. Whiting and bream around Chambers Island. A few good flathead, mangrove jack and jew at night in the Cod Hole. Mangrove jack in Petrie creek, Bli Bli and Dunethin Rock. Flathead and bream from the mouth of Eudlo Creek. Whiting and bream from Picnic Point. Mud crab in Eudlo creek, Bli Bli reach and the upper river and a few reasonable sand crabs in the lower reaches

Kawana: Flathead, bream, dart and whiting along the beaches, trevally along the rock walls at the Mooloolah River mouth. Trevally, bream to 35cm and gar from the boat mooring and in the Kawana canals. Flathead and whiting in the sand basin and trevally around Minyama Island. Trevally and flathead from Mountain Creek. Mangrove jack in the middle river around the snaggy banks.

Caloundra: Flathead and mulloway inside Caloundra Bar. Try for queenfish and trevally on live bait around Military Jetty and the Boardwalk. Good flathead with some over the maximum size released and trevally from Military jetty area. Trevally and mangrove jack around the rock bars, bridge pylons and pontoons. showing up in the canals and creeks that feed into the passage. Catches of sand crabs in the passage and muddies in the creeks.

PB Jack 50cm

Shanan Nicholls caught and released this horse of a Jack up Petrie Creek on an Atomic mid diver lure, it measured in at 50 cm and put up a good fight on light tackle.

There will be better conditions this morning as winds will be north to northeasterly 15 to 20 knots decreasing to about 10 knots during the morning. Winds tending east to northeasterly 10 to 15 knots during the late morning or early afternoon. A southerly change 15 to 20 knots possibly reaching  southern waters during the morning. Much improved offshore conditions with winds east to southeasterly 10 to 15 knots decreasing to about 10 knots in the middle of the day then tending east to northeasterly 10 to 15 knots in the early afternoon. Seas Around 1 metre. Should have settled down even more by tomorrow with variable winds about 10 knots becoming northeasterly 10 to 15 knots during the day. So as conditions improve be prepared for a trip to the Barwon Banks which produced producing amberjack to 26kg, pearl perch, hussar, sea bream, moses perch, venus tusk fish and mowong last weekend.

Estuaries

Noosa: Flathead 80cm and an 95cm on a herring and prawn bait caught and released in the Woods Bays over the weekend. Offshore

Strong Wind Warning for today in Sunshine Coast Waters, so conditions becoming rough through the morning with winds north to northwesterly 15 to 20 knots shifting southerly 15 to 25 knots in the morning. Winds reaching up to 30 knots during the afternoon and evening.  Seas will be 1 to 2 metres, increasing to 2 to 3 metres around midday. So you will have to leave the quality snapper at North Reef for a few days to come, as well as grass sweetlip, pearl perch, striped sea perch, mowong, venus tusk fish and moses perch.

Estuaries

Choppy conditions with winds northerly 15 to 20 knots turning northwesterly in the late evening. Seas will be around 1 metre, increasing to 1 to 1.5 metres during the morning. Rough conditions picking up for tomorrow with winds southerly 20 to 30 knots turning southeasterly 25 to 30 knots during the afternoon. Yesterday there were quality knobby snapper at North Reef on Trekka 2 charter, as well as grass sweetlip, pearl perch, striped sea perch, mowong, venus tusk fish and moses perch. On the Gneerings were a few good sweetlip, snapper and tusk fish.

Estuaries

Noosa: Whiting, dart and jew over night in the gutters along Teewah and the southern beaches. There's been plenty of good quality flathead, bream, whiting and trevally at the Noosa River mouth and along the Noosaville reach and cale cale trevally are taking soft plastics at Tewantin. In Weyba Creek there were reports of good bream and a few whiting with the odd elbow slapper in amongst the schools. Mangrove jack to 54cm taken in Noosa Sound and between the lakes.

Mud crab in Eudlo creek and the Bli Bli reach. Several catches of mangrove jack in the upper reaches.

Could be good conditions particularly early  and in the bays with winds southeasterly 10 to 15 knots turning easterly in the morning. Seas will be around 1 metre. There's were gold spot cod, snapper, cobia, dolphin fish moses perch, venus tusk fish, grass sweetlip, sergeant baker and coral bream on North Reef. On the Gneerings were a few good sweetlip, snapper and tusk fish.

Estuaries

Noosa: Whiting, dart and jew (at night) on Castaways and Yaroomba Beaches. There's been plenty of good quality flathead, bream, whiting and trevally at the Noosa River mouth and along the Noosaville reach and in Woods Bay. In Weyba Creek there were reports of good bream plus whiting in numbers, with the odd elbow slapper in amongst the schools. Mangrove jack to 54cm taken in Noosa Sound and between the lakes. Flathead, bream and grunter bream along the Tewantin reach.

Maroochydore: Still schools of herring bait fish and a few good whiting around Chambers Island. A few quality flathead and giant trevally and bream in the Cod Hole. Kawana: Dart and a few tailor along the beaches, trevally along the rock walls at the Mooloolah River mouth. Trevally, bream and gar from the boat mooring and in the Kawana canals. Flathead and whiting in the sand basin and trevally around Minyama Island. Trevally and flathead from Mountain Creek. Mangrove jack in the middle river around the snaggy banks.

Caloundra: Bream off the rocks at Kings Beach, queenfish on live bait around Military Jetty and the Boardwalk. Good flathead with some over the maximum size released and trevally from Military jetty area. Trevally a few mangrove jack showing up in the canals and creeks. Catches of sand crabs in the passage and muddies in the creeks.

Offshore

Could be good conditions early  with winds southeasterly 10 to 15 knots, reaching 15 to 20 knots north of Maroochydore during the afternoon and evening. Seas will be around 1 metre, increasing to 1 to 1.5 metres around midday. Yesterday there were gold spot cod, snapper, cobia, dolphin fish moses perch, venus tusk fish, grass sweetlip, sergeant baker and coral bream on North Reef. On the Gneerings were a few good sweetlip, snapper and tusk fish.

Estuaries

Noosa: There's been plenty of good quality flathead, bream, whiting and trevally at the Noosa River mouth and along the Noosaville reach and in Woods Bay. In Weyba Creek there were reports of good bream plus whiting in numbers, with the odd elbow slapper in amongst the schools. Mangrove jack to 50cm taken in Noosa Sound and between the lakes. Flathead, bream and grunter bream along the Tewantin reach.

Maroochydore: Heaps of herring bait fish around Chambers Island. A few quality flathead and giant trevally and bream in the Cod Hole.
