Local Fishing Report: Friday 2015-10-02

Offshore

Another good day to get out early with variable winds at about 10 knots becoming choppy with a southeasterly 15 to 20 knots in the middle of the day. Seas will be below 1 metre, increasing to 1 to 1.5 metres around midday. North Reef has had good snapper, moses perch, mowong, grass sweetlip, pearl perch, Maori cod and lots of small hussar. The Barwon Banks has had gold band snapper, venus tusk fish, moses perch, spangled emperor, lots of squire and some quality snapper. Parrot and grass sweetlip from the gneerings. Quality tusk fish, and snapper out on the Gneerings.

Estuaries

Noosa: There's a few quality whiting in the lower river. Trevally and flathead in Woods Bay. Good queenfish and flathead up around Tewantin. Flathead to 68cm in Woods Bay and flathead around the flats between Tewantin Marina and Makepeace Island and at Munna Point. Mangrove jack in the deep holes in Noosa Sound and Woods Bay. Bream, whiting and trevally at the entrance to Lake Cooroibah and mud crabs in the Lakes.

Maroochydore: There's been tailor in the evenings and whiting and flathead through the day Maroochy North Shore. Giant trevally, cale cale, tailor to 65cm, bream to 32cm and school jew in the Cod Hole. Mangrove jack from the rocks bars in Petrie Creek. Good flathead in Petrie Creek, Bli Bli and Chambers Island. School jew in the upper river. Mud crabs between Bli Bli Islands and Coolum Creek, also up Petrie creek. Whiting along the Twin Water stretch on high tide. Bream and Tarwhine from Black Banks.

Kawana: Tailor off Pt Cartwright. Good catches of quality sand crabs in the lower reaches of the Mooloolah River. Still a few good bream and golden trevally from the moorings, rock walls and lower river with better quality fish over night. Trevally, flathead and mud crabs in Mountain Creek and the canals. Golden Trevally, around Minyama Island. Jew over night, whiting and try for mangrove jack around McKenzies Bridge.

Caloundra: Bream and a few mangrove jack showing up in the canals and a few mangrove jack on live bait and lures in Bells Creek. Good quality flathead along the drop offs throughout the Passage. Whiting and flathead in Coochin Creek. Whiting opposite the mouth of Bells Creek. Some good catches of sand crabs in the passage and muddies in the creeks.

Young Jackson, Charlii and Andie Retschlag caught bream and Tarwhine in the middle Maroochy River yesterday aboard a swan hire boat.

Offshore

Looks like good offshore conditions today with a bit of northerly chop as winds will be north to northwesterly 10 to 15 knots tending north to northeasterly in the middle of the day then decreasing to about 10 knots in the early afternoon and seas around 1 metre. North Reef has had good snapper, moses perch, mowong, grass sweetlip, pearl perch, Maori cod and lots of small hussar. Offshore

Great offshore conditions again with variable about 10 knots becoming northerly 10 to 15 knots in the middle of the day and seas below 1 metre, increasing to around 1 metre during the afternoon. Trekka 2 fished North Reef yesterday for moses perch, mowong, grass sweetlip, pearl perch, Maori cod and lots of small hussar. Conditions were excellent.

Estuaries

Noosa: There's a few quality whiting in the lower river. Good flathead to 68cm in Woods Bay and flathead around the flats between Tewantin Marina and Makepeace Island and at Munna Point. Still bream around the structures and deep holes throughout the river. Mangrove jack in the deep holes in Noosa Sound and Woods Bay, bream, whiting and trevally at the entrance to Lake Cooroibah and mud crabs in the Lakes.

Winds turning southeasterly 15 to 20 knots in the late afternoon. Seas 1.5 to 2.5 metres. Good idea to stay in sheltered waters again today. Conditions easing back tomorrow to south to southeasterly 15 to 20 knots tending east to southeasterly below 10 knots during the afternoon.

Noosa: There's a few bigger whiting up to 39cm showing up in the lower river. Flathead 65cm and 68cm went for a 'Silver Biddy' Squidgy Prawn soft plastic in Woods Bay. Still bream around the structures and deep holes throughout the river. Mangrove jack in the deep holes in Noosa Sound and Woods Bay, bream, whiting and trevally at the entrance to Lake Cooroibah and mud crabs in the Lakes.

Strong Wind Warning again today for Sunshine Coast Waters as winds will be Southerly 20 to 30 knots decreasing to 20 to 25 knots in the morning then increasing to 25 to 30 knots in the early afternoon. Seas 2 to 3 metres and swell will be big and potentially dangerous with southerly 2 to 3 metres, reaching to 3 to 4 metres offshore during the morning. Easing back a little but it looks like it will be only marginally better offshore tomorrow. Good idea to stay in sheltered waters again today.

Strong Wind Warning for later this afternoon today for Sunshine Coast Waters as  winds will be okay early today with variable about 10 knots becoming north to northwesterly 15 to 20 knots in the morning then tending southeast to southwesterly 20 to 25 knots in the late evening. Winds reaching up to 30 knots offshore south of Maroochydore in the late evening. Seas Below 1 metre, increasing to 1 to 2 metres by early evening. Good catches at Sunshine Reef with moses perch, venus tusk fish, slate bream, coral bream and coral trout. North Reef's had catches of moses perch, teraglin jewfish, venus tusk fish, sweetlip, gold spot cod and coral trout. Grassy sweetlip, spangled emperor and small snapper on Murphys Reef, Arkwright Shoal and the Inner Gneerings, pearl perch and amberjack at Wide Caloundra, snapper at Caloundra 5 Mile and the NW Fairway Buoy, longtail tuna offshore from Moffat Beach. Grass sweetlip, snapper and spangled emperor from Murphy's Reef. Snapper, school mackerel and bream at Raper Shoal.

Offshore

Winds will settle down by evening after a southeasterly 15 to 20 knots turning easterly 10 to 15 knots in the evening. Seas 1 to 1.5 metres, decreasing to 1 metre around midday. Better conditions tomorrow with variable winds about 10 knots becoming north to northwesterly 15 to 20 knots during the day then tending west to northwesterly during the evening. There have however been good catches at Sunshine Reef with moses perch, venus tusk fish, slate bream, coral bream and coral trout. North Reef's had catches of moses perch, teraglin jewfish, venus tusk fish, sweetlip, gold spot cod and coral trout. Grassy sweetlip, spangled emperor and small snapper on Murphys Reef, Arkwright Shoal and the Inner Gneerings, pearl perch and amberjack at Wide Caloundra, snapper at Caloundra 5 Mile and the NW Fairway Buoy, longtail tuna offshore from Moffat Beach. Still a few good bream and golden trevally from the moorings, rock walls and lower river with better quality fish over night and dawn and dusk. Trevally, flathead and mud crabs in Mountain Creek and the canals. Golden Trevally, around Minyama Island. Jew over night and whiting near McKenzies Bridge and sand crabs in the lower reaches.

Caloundra: Tailor at Buddina and dart at Currimundi Beach. Bream and a few mangrove jack showing up in the canals. Good quality flathead along the drop offs throughout the Passage. Whiting and flathead in Coochin Creek. Whiting opposite the mouth of Bells Creek. School jew near Pelican Waters Bridge.

Local Fishing Report: Sunday 2015-09-20

Offshore

Winds will be southeasterly 15 to 20 knots, reaching up to 25 knots offshore north of Maroochydore in the late afternoon. Seas 1 to 2 metres. There have however been good catches at Sunshine Reef with moses perch, venus tusk fish, slate bream, coral bream and coral trout. North Reef's had catches of moses perch, teraglin jewfish, venus tusk fish, sweetlip, gold spot cod and coral trout. Grassy sweetlip, spangled emperor and small snapper on Murphys Reef, Arkwright Shoal and the Inner Gneerings, pearl perch and amberjack at Wide Caloundra, snapper at Caloundra 5 Mile and the NW Fairway Buoy, longtail tuna offshore from Moffat Beach. Grass sweetlip, snapper and spangled emperor from Murphy's Reef. Snapper, school mackerel and bream at Raper Shoal.

Estuaries

Noosa: There's the odd big whiting to 38cm showing up in the lower river and tailor early morning at the Noosa River mouth and Frying Pan. Flathead, bream and whiting along the ski run at Tewantin and sand crabs in the lower reaches. Golden trevally, queenfish and solid flathead in Woods Bay.

Maroochydore: Good flathead in Petrie Creek, from Bli Bli, Chambers Island and the Cod Hole including a 60cm dusky. Still a few big bream off Chambers Island and in the river mouth particularly over night. Bream, several good trevally and flathead between the Cod Hole.
