Local Fishing Report: Saturday 2015-09-19

Offshore

Strong Wind Warning today for Sunshine Coast Waters as winds will be southeasterly 25 to 30 knots decreasing to 20 to 25 knots in the morning then increasing to 25 to 30 knots in the early afternoon. Seas 2 to 3 metres. Conditions will settle down tomorrow and hopefully be okay is sheltered inshore areas. There have however been good catches at Sunshine Reef with moses perch, venus tusk fish, slate bream, coral bream and coral trout. North Reef's had catches of moses perch, teraglin jewfish, venus tusk fish, sweetlip, gold spot cod and coral trout. Grassy sweetlip, spangled emperor and small snapper on Murphys Reef, Arkwright Shoal and the Inner Gneerings, pearl perch and amberjack at Wide Caloundra, snapper at Caloundra 5 Mile and the NW Fairway Buoy, longtail tuna offshore from Moffat Beach. Grass sweetlip, snapper and spangled emperor from Murphy's Reef. Snapper, school mackerel and bream at Raper Shoal.

Estuaries

Noosa: The beaches will be blown out for most of today so try the sheltered areas. There's the odd big whiting to 38cm showing up in the lower river and tailor early morning at the Noosa River mouth and Frying Pan. Flathead, bream and whiting along the ski run at Tewantin and sand crabs in the lower reaches. Golden trevally, queenfish and solid flathead in Woods Bay.

Maroochydore: Good flathead in Petrie Creek from Bli Bli, Chambers Island and the Cod Hole including a 60cm dusky. Still a few big bream off Chambers Island and in the river mouth particularly over night. Bream, several good trevally and flathead between the Cod Hole. School jew in the deeper holes between Bli Bli bridge and Coolum Creeks. Mud crabs from the wetland stretch and in the canals.

Kawana: Try for tailor and jew at dawn and dusk along Kawana Beach when the wind settles back and bream and tailor along the rock walls at the Mooloolah River mouth. Still a few good bream and golden trevally from the moorings, rock walls and lower river with better quality fish over night and dawn and dusk. Trevally, flathead and mud crabs in Mountain Creek and the canals.

Caloundra: Bream and squid off the rocks at Moffat Beach. Bream and a few mangrove jack showing up in the canals. Try on the tip of Bribie Island for tailor, flathead and whiting. Good quality flathead along the drop offs throughout the Passage. Whiting at the mouth of Coochin and Bells Creeks and school jew near Pelican Waters Bridge.

Strong Wind Warning today for Sunshine Coast Waters as winds will start out west to southwesterly 10 to 15 knots turning south to southeasterly 20 to 25 knots early in the morning. Winds reaching up to 30 knots during the afternoon and evening.  Seas below 1 metre, increasing to 2 to 3 metres during the morning. Conditions will settle down tomorrow afternoon and hopefully by Sunday you can expect good fishing in these areas, Sunshine Reef's had moses perch, venus tusk fish, slate bream, coral bream and coral trout. Wild Thing 2 fished Sunshine Reef for moses perch, venus tusk fish, slate bream, coral bream and coral trout. Conditions were quite good with a 10 knot southerly. North Reef's had catches of moses perch, teraglin jewfish, venus tusk fish, sweetlip, gold spot cod and coral trout. Grassy sweetlip, spangled emperor and small snapper on Murphys Reef, Arkwright Shoal and the Inner Gneerings, pearl perch and amberjack at Wide Caloundra, snapper at Caloundra 5 Mile and the NW Fairway Buoy, longtail tuna offshore from Moffat Beach. Golden trevally, queenfish and solid flathead in Woods Bay. Catches of bream are slowing down but still plenty in the deep holes and around structure throughout the River.

Kawana: Jew at dawn along Kawana Beach, tailor off the rocks at Point Cartwright and along the rock walls at the Mooloolah River mouth. Still a few good bream and golden trevally from the moorings, rock walls and lower river with better quality fish over night and dawn and dusk. Flathead, bream and gar in the Basin and flathead. Trevally, flathead and mud crabs in Mountain Creek.

Caloundra: Try on the tip of Bribie Island for tailor, flathead and whiting. Good quality flathead to 68cm along the drop offs throughout the Passage. Still a few good bream and golden trevally from the moorings, rock walls and lower river with better quality fish over night and dawn and dusk. Flathead, bream and gar in the Basin and flathead. Trevally and flathead in Mountain Creek reach.

Catches of bream are slowing down but still plenty in the deep holes and around structure throughout the River, with a 40cm bream taken at the Tewantin boat ramp and a number of quality bream taken at Munna Beach. Good whiting and flathead at the river mouth and in Weyba Creek.

Maroochydore: Flathead from Bli Bli, Chambers Island and the Cod Hole to 60cm on Zerek soft plastics. Trevally and school jew in Petrie Creek. Big bream in the river mouth over night. Bream, trevally, and a few chopper tailor feeding and flathead between the Cod Hole and Chambers Island. Flathead, bream and trevally from Dunethin rock. Mud crabs in the middle river.

Kawana: Jew at dawn along Kawana Beach, tailor and school mackerel off the rocks at Point Cartwright and along the rock walls at the Mooloolah River mouth. Still a few good bream and golden trevally from the moorings, rock walls and lower river with better quality fish over night and dawn and dusk. Flathead, bream and gar in the Basin and flathead. Trevally and flathead in Mountain Creek reach.

Caloundra: Chopper tailor and flathead at the northern end of Bribie Island. Good quality flathead to 68cm along the drop offs throughout the Passage. Whiting at the mouth of Coochin and Bells Creeks and school jew near Pelican Waters Bridge. Flathead along the drop offs in the Passage and bream around Military and the Coastguard Jetties.

Offshore

Winds will be northerly 10 to 15 knots tending northwesterly 15 to 20 knots before dawn then tending westerly in the late evening. Seas will be 1 to 1.5 metre. Swell will be 1m. There's been snapper, pearl perch, tuskfish, hussar, moses perch, yellowtail king, cobia and mulloway off Double Island Point. Pearl perch, snapper and amberjack on the Barwon Banks and snapper, amberjack and yellowtail king on the Hards and pearl perch and amberjack at Wide Caloundra, snapper at Caloundra 5 Mile and the NW Fairway Buoy, longtail tuna offshore from Moffat Beach.

Estuaries

Noosa: There's tailor and dart being caught along North Shore. A good size diamond trevally was caught and released this in the Woods Bay and a number of quality bream taken at Munna Beach. Good whiting and a 65cm flathead at the river mouth and a 65cm flathead caught and released in Weyba Creek. Plenty of bream in the deep holes and around structure throughout the River. Trevally and solid flathead in Woods Bay.
