Local Fishing Report: Saturday 2016-01-09

Offshore

Great conditions today and for the next few days as well with Southeasterly 10 to 15 knots. Seas below 1 metre.  Wild Thing 2 charter to North Reef saw huge gold spot cod, moses, perch, slate bream, grass sweetlip, gold spot wrasse monocle bream and big pearl perch. Sunshine Reef had big cobia yesterday and there’s been coral trout to 65cm, good grass sweetlip, venus tusk fish, squire and spotties and a 4kg trout taken on whole pilchard. Cougar One also fished North Reef for big jew, and huge moses perch, grass sweetlip, venus tusk fish, spotted mackerel (off the bottom) and a nice cobia. The crews on Top Catch Charters have been to the Gneerings/Murphy’s recently taking amberjack, snapper, moses perch, hussar, tusk fish, morwong, coral trout, pearl perch, jewfish, wahoo and mackerel.

Estuaries

Noosa: The New Moon Phase on Sunday will have the fish on the bite. Conditions will be good for fishing the gutters. There's been some quality flathead to 80cm throughout the river system and quality mangrove jack also taken in Noosa Waters. A few quality bream at night around Munna Beach. There's been plenty of good trevally, a few whiting up to 35cm using live worms and flathead to 70cm caught on soft plastics in Woods Bay. A few sand and mud crabs on the move throughout the river.

Maroochydore: Been several catches of good flathead through the lower river and around Chambers Island. A few good mangrove jack again yesterday in Petrie Creek. Quality whiting up to38cm overnight in the lower river. Few good whiting and flathead at Dunethin rock. GT's to 2.5kg, cale cale and quality mangrove jack in Pertie Creek and the upper river. The mud crabs on the move.

Kawana: Try for dart and whiting off the beaches. Whiting, golden trevally, bream and gar from the boat mooring and in the Kawana canals. Trevally up to 2kg along the rock walls around the river mouth. Bream and estuary cod along the La Balsa Park reach, flathead and whiting in the Basin. Mangrove jack to 44cm around the bridges and rock walls and sand crabs in the lower reaches.

Caloundra: Dart and flathead along the beaches as well as trevally near the Bar. Golden Beach and the mouth of Bells Creek both producing a few good whiting to 38cm and flathead. Mangrove jack to 52cm and good flathead in all the creeks particularly Coochin Creek. Trevally in the canals and mangrove jack around the bridge pylons and rock walls. Get the crab pots out as the crabs begin to move about.

John Clarke Dusky Flathead Lower Maroochy

John Clarke form the Maroochy RSL Fishing Club took thie nice dusky flathead in the lower Maroochy.

Offshore

Choppy conditions with southeasterly 15 to 20 knots. Steve Vogler Whiting to 38cm 

Steve Vogler did an overnight fish in the lower Maroochy with his boys, using yabbies for bait, for a fantastic feed of big whiting up 38cm.

Offshore

Could be a bit choppy in the south with west to northwesterly 10 to 15 knots tending southwest to southeasterly 15 to 20 knots from the south early in the morning and reaching up to 25 knots offshore south of Maroochydore. Winds shifting southeasterly 10 to 15 knots in the afternoon and evening though still reaching up to 20 knots at times. Seas 1 to 1.5 metres, increasing to 1 to 2 metres south of Maroochydore. Big pearl perch and many lined sweetlip from Monday's Wild Thing 2 charter to North Reef. Cameron Vogler 2.5kg GT Bream Petrie

Grinners are winners, Cameron Vogler fished Petrie Creek with his dad on Sunday night for a 2.5kg GT and some fat bream while his brother Daniel took a couple of feisty mangrove jack.

Good conditions early morning with south to southwesterly 10 to 15 knots becoming variable about 10 knots in the middle of the day then becoming south to southeasterly 10 to 15 knots in the evening. Seas 1 to 1.5 metres, decreasing to 1 metre during the morning. Sunshine Reef there’s been good grass sweetlip, venus tusk fish, squire and spotties and a 4kg trout taken on whole pilchard. Noosa Bluewater Charters fished Chardon's Reef yesterday morning for moses perch, pearl perch, venus tusk fish, Maori cod and a quality large mouth nannygai. Cougar One also fished North Reef for grass sweetlip, moses perch, venus tusk fish, spotted mackerel (off the bottom) and a nice cobia.

Mangrove jack, trevally and flathead caught in Mountain Creek, in and around the bridge pylons and snaggy banks. Jacks and cod in Parrearra channel.

New Years Day Fishing Report: Friday 2016-01-01

Offshore

It’s fantastic to see the winds easing back a little, although it will take a bit of time for conditions to settle down with south to southeasterly 15 to 20 knots and seas still 1 to 2 metres. So probably better to stay in sheltered waters or bays today. Conditions better tomorrow afternoon turning southeasterly 10 to 15 knots during the afternoon. When conditions improve this is what the crews on Top Catch Charters were catching before the strong winds this week. At the Gneerings/Murphy’s- amberjack, snapper, moses perch, hussar, tusk fish, morwong, coral trout, pearl perch, jewfish, wahoo and mackerel.

Kawana: As the wind eases back try for dart and whiting off the beaches Whiting, golden trevally, bream and gar from the boat mooring and in the Kawana canals. Trevally up to 2kg along the rock walls around the river mouth. A few big flathead and whiting in the sand basin. Mangrove jack, trevally and flathead caught in Mountain Creek, in and around the bridge pylons and snaggy banks. Jacks and cod in Parrearra channel.

Caloundra: Dart and flathead along the beaches as well as trevally near the Bar. Golden Beach and the mouth of Bells Creek both producing a few good whiting to 38cm and flathead. Mangrove jack to 52cm and good flathead in all the creeks particularly Coochin Creek. Trevally in the canals and mangrove jack around the bridge pylons and rock walls.
