Local Fishing Report: Sunday 2016-09-11

Offshore

Better conditions today with north to northwesterly 10 to 15 knots tending south to southwesterly early in the morning then tending east to southeasterly in the early afternoon with seas around 1 metre. Also back to work tomorrow so conditions will be great with variable winds below 10 knots becoming east to northeasterly 10 to 15 knots during the afternoon then tending north to northeasterly during the evening. So with calmer conditions be ready to go as there have been pearlies, squire, moses perch and venus tuskies on North Reef and coral trout, snapper, tusk fish, pearl perch and grass sweetlip from Sunshine Reef. Snapper, pearl perch and yellowtail king at Caloundra 9 Mile. Amberjack, yellowtail king, pearl perch and small snapper at Murphys Reef.

Estuaries

Noosa: There is good quality flathead and bream at the Noosa River mouth and flathead and trevally in Woods Bay. Also golden trevally around the Tewantin ski run and a few trevally, the odd tailor at night at the river mouth and bream in the lower river and around Woods Bay and the Sound. Flathead and bream in Weyba Creek and bream and grunter bream along the Tewantin reach. Mud crabs along the Tewantin reach and in Lake Cooroibah.

Maroochydore: A few good whiting and bream around Goat and Channel Islands. Bream, still the odd tailor and golden trevally around the Cod Hole area and up along Oyster Bank Road. Good flathead to 72cm off Chambers Island and the Cod Hole and from Eudlo and Petrie creek mouths. Muddies are already on the move with a few quality crabs in the canals.

Kawana: Bream in the surf on the southern side of Point Cartwright, trevally and tailor along the rock walls at the Mooloolah River mouth. A few golden trevally and a few GT’s in the Kawana Canals. Bream, gar and trevally around the boat moorings and rock walls, also plenty of quality flathead in the Basin and bream around the trawler moorings.

Caloundra: Plenty of bream a few whiting and good quality flathead to be had throughout the sheltered spots in Pumicestone Passage. Trevally and still a few tailor in Pelican Waters Canal. Flathead from Military Jetty. Jew and bigger bream at night in the deeper hole of the northern passage Whiting Coochin Creek mouth, flathead along the drop offs and mud crabs feeding in the creeks

Still will be choppy conditions today, not to mention the possibility of a squally thunderstorm forecast, with northeasterly 10 to 15 knots, reaching up to 20 knots offshore during the morning. Turning northerly during the morning. Conditions will ease back tomorrow  with north to northwesterly 10 to 15 knots tending south to southwesterly during the morning then tending east to southeasterly during the afternoon with seas around 1 metre. . Steven Wheller caught few whiting in the lower Maroochy River around Channel Island with the biggest being 32 cm

Offshore

Looks like choppy to lumpy conditions will continue today with easterly 15 to 20 knots turning northeasterly during the morning. east to southeasterly 15 to 20 knots and a sea running at 1.5 metres, increasing to 1.5 to 2 metres offshore.  Conditions may ease back a little tomorrow through the morning with a northeasterly 15 to 20 knots turning northerly 10 to 15 knots during the morning. So when conditions improve later in the weekend be ready to go as there have recently  been pearlies, squire, moses perch and venus tuskies on North Reef and coral trout, snapper, tusk fish, pearl perch and grass sweetlip from Sunshine Reef. Snapper, pearl perch and yellowtail king at Caloundra 9 Mile. Amberjack, yellowtail king, pearl perch and small snapper at Murphys Reef.

Kim Maas Mudcrab

The muddies are on the move in the Mighty Maroochy River! Local angler, Kim Maas from the Maroochy RSL Fishing Club put the pots in at lunch time and got this nice one pretty soon after. He had no string, so his fishing and beer drinking mate, Ollie used a couple of Zip ties to nail the job. Well done boys!

Wild Thing 2 fished D.I recently for snapper, amberjack, yellowtail kingfish, samson fish, venus tusk fish, coral bream, pearl perch and moses perch. North Reef has had moses, pearlies, tuskies, squire and cobia. Pearl perch and snapper at Caloundra. Amberjack, yellowtail king, pearl perch and small snapper at Murphys Reef. Conditions looking okay tomorrow so be ready to go as Wild Thing 2 fished D.I recently for snapper, amberjack, yellowtail kingfish, samson fish, venus tusk fish, coral bream, pearl perch and moses perch. North Reef has had moses, pearlies, tuskies, squire and cobia. Pearl perch and snapper at Caloundra wide, coral trout at Sunshine Reef, amberjack, yellowtail king, pearl perch and small snapper at Murphys Reef. Good snapper on Sunshine Reef. There have been, pearlies, tusk fish and snapper from Murphy’s. Tuna, snapper and sweetlip off Coolum Reef. Jew and grass sweetlip from Raper Shoal.

Strong Wind Warning for today for Sunshine Coast Waters Looks like rough conditions, so you should stay in the sheltered waters of the estuaries, with winds blowing Northeasterly 10 to 15 knots tending northerly 15 to 20 knots before dawn, then increasing to 20 to 25 knots in the afternoon. Reaching up to 30 knots offshore in the late evening with seas and swell below 1 to 1.5 metres, increasing to 1.5 to 2.5 metres during the afternoon. Conditions will be similar tomorrow in the morning then easing back with a south westerly in the afternoon. Conditions could be okay on Sunday so be ready to go as North Reef has had moses, pearlies, tuskies, squire and cobia also at Double Island theres slaties, snapper, Maori cod, hussar, moses, pearlies and a black spot cod. Pearl perch and snapper at Caloundra wide, coral trout at Sunshine Reef, amberjack, yellowtail king, pearl perch and small snapper at Murphys Reef. Good snapper on Sunshine Reef. There have been, pearlies, tusk fish and snapper from Murphy’s. Tuna, snapper and sweetlip off Coolum Reef. Jew and grass sweetlip from Raper Shoal.

Offshore

Looks like okay conditions early ahead of the northerly choppy sea breeze later, with winds blowing north to northeasterly about 10 knots increasing to 15 to 20 knots in the late afternoon.  with seas and swell below 1 metre, increasing to 1 to 1.5 metres by early evening. North Reef has had moses, pearlies, tuskies, squire and cobia also at Double Island theres slaties, snapper, Maori cod, hussar, moses, pearlies and a black spot cod. Pearl perch and snapper at Caloundra wide, coral trout at Sunshine Reef, amberjack, yellowtail king, pearl perch and small snapper at Murphys Reef. Good snapper on Sunshine Reef. There have been, pearlies, tusk fish and snapper from Murphy’s. Tuna, snapper and sweetlip off Coolum Reef. Jew and grass sweetlip from Raper Shoal.

Estuaries

Noosa: There’s been plenty of good quality flathead caught and released, a few trevally, the odd tailor at night at the river mouth and bream in the lower river and around Woods Bay and the Sound. Big flathead in and a few trevally in Weyba Creek. Still luderick and bream from around the river mouth car park rocks. Worth getting the crab pots into action again.

Maroochydore: Tailor, tarwhine and bream at the top of the tide overnight at Cotton Tree. A few good whiting around Goat and Channel Islands. Bream and trevally around the Cod Hole area and up along Oyster Bank Road. Flathead off Chambers Island and 72cm from near cruise Maroochy and from Eudlo and Petrie creek mouths. Jew in the middle and upper reaches. Muddies are already on the move.

Kawana: Tailor, trevally and bream off the rock walls and Pt Cartwright particularly at night. Golden trevally and a few GT’s in the Kawana Canals. Offshore

Looks like good conditions with winds blowing east to northeasterly 10 to 15 knots tending north to northeasterly during the morning with seas and swell both around the 1m mark. Wild Thing 2 fished North Reef yesterday and caught moses, pearlies, tuskies, squire and cobia also at Double Island the day before they caught, slaties, snapper, Maori cod, hussar, moses, pearlies and a black spot cod. Pearl perch and snapper at Caloundra wide, snapper on the Barwon Banks, coral trout at Sunshine Reef, amberjack, yellowtail king, pearl perch and small snapper at Murphys Reef. Pearl perch, moses perch, tusk fish and snapper from North Reef. Good snapper on Sunshine Reef. There have been, pearlies, tusk fish and snapper from Murphy’s. School mackerel, tuna, snapper and sweetlip off Coolum Reef. Jew and grass sweetlip from Raper Shoal.
